Registration deadlines are quickly approaching for the Junior Miss, Tiny Miss and Little Miss pageants.

Pageant organizer Tracie Haskell said the Aug. 31 deadline will apply to all pageants, including the newly added Junior Miss.

In the past, Haskell said the pageants have had outstanding participation.

“This is the first year the Junior Miss has ever been done,” she said. “It’s hard to say what our participation will be. For the Tiny and Little Miss, we take 25 contestants for each one. It’s usually full every year.”

The new Junior Miss pageant is open to  girls 12 to 16, the Little Miss pageant is open to girls 5 and 6 and the Tiny Miss is open to 3 and 4-year-olds.

Aside from signing up, Haskell said there are few requirements for the girls.

“They will do a written interview for the Junior Miss pageant,” she said. “And they have to get their pictures made for the newspaper. Other than that, there’s really not a lot for them to do to get ready.

The Junior pageant is scheduled for  Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. The Tiny and Little Miss pageants are set for Oct. 8, with the Tiny at 2 p.m. and Little Miss at 4 p.m.

In the younger divisions, Haskell said everyone is a winner.

“For Tiny and Little Miss, each little girl goes home with a trophy,” she said. “They all get a goody bag full of crayons and bubbles and stuff like that. All the girls walk away with something, they get a trophy no matter what place they get in.”

The participants are also given a stuffed animal.

The idea, Haskell said, is to make the pageant fun for everyone.

“It’s fun for them just to get up there and do it,” she said. “We just try to get it running smoothly, have enough people backstage and running along.” More information on the pageants is available by calling 875-7327. Applications are available at www.centralalabamafair.com.
