New additions and old traditions will come together Saturday when the 33rd annual Tale Tellin’ Festival continues.

The festival will continue in its first year without founder Kathryn Tucker Windham and will also take place at the new Carneal ArtsRevive Building, but the stories and good food will be as they have during past events.

One new addition, ArtsRevive president Fran Pearce said, brought storytellers into local schools.

Anndrena Belcher spoke to students at Byrd School and Morgan Academy on the importance of passing stories down through each generation.

“We are going to grow that more next year,” Pearce said. “We want to get more storytellers into the schools. She taught them the value of getting their family stories and taught them how important it is to get their grandparents’ stories and collect those.”

Pearce said it was amazing to see how interested the students were in Belcher’s stories. She said she would like to see more participation in the future.

“There is so much educational value, and if the schools and the teachers want to work with us, we can work with them art wise in the future,” she said. “She got the students involved and it was great. They were so in-tune with what she was doing.”

Saturday, Pearce said there will be booths with books for sale, including works by Windham, and there will be tickets available at Market Day.

T-shirts, barbecue sandwiches from Lannie’s, hot dogs and an assortment of drinks will also be available.

The event will begin at 7 p.m. Swappin grounds will be open at 5:30 p.m. and anyone with a story is encouraged to participate.

Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and can be purchased from the Selma-Dallas County Center for Commerce, Selma-Dallas County Public Library, Truax & Co. or by calling 878-ARTS.
