Elmer E. (Sollie) Oliver, Lt. Col, USAF, (Ret) passed away on Sept 2, 2011, in Tucson, AZ. Sollie was born in Anniston, AL but grew up in Orrville, AL. Sollie attended Orrville School and was noted for his athletic abilities. Upon his graduation he attended Auburn University. He joined the USAF in 1950 and in 1953 he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. During his years in the service he received his pilot’s wings, earned multiple degrees, married and had four daughters. He retired in 1972 and returned to Orrville in 1981. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Peggy, his daughters, Lynn Chase, Debbie Stanford, Tanya Callesen and Joni Preston, 9 grandchildren which include Melesa and Joel Chase formerly of Orrville, and 8 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his mother Evelyn K. Oliver and his Aunt Louise Kelly. He is also survived by his sister Virginia Oliver.
Sollie was a kind and generous man who will be missed by all who knew him but especially his family. A USAF Honor Guard Memorial Commemorating Sollie’s service to our country was held on October 20, 2011 in Prescott, AZ.
