The one-vehicle accident, on U.S. Highway 80 near the 114-mile marker, killed Tara Sanders Carter and Frank Carter, both of Selma. Kwamikh Fletcher and Rosita Boyd were injured.

Lowndes County Coroner Doris Alexander, who pronounced Sanders dead at the scene at 12:20 p.m., said the vehicle was traveling toward Montgomery and all four persons in the vehicle were ejected. She said she understood that Carter later died at Baptist South Hospital.

Troopers reported the accident, involving the 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Sanders, occurred in the eastbound lane at around 11:50 a.m.

Lowndesboro Fire and Rescue assisted at the scene along with Burkeville Fire and Rescue.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the Alabama State Troopers.
