Train, truck collide

An early morning collision between a train and log truck in the yard of Miller Lumber Company caused extensive damage to the truck, but resulted in only minor injuries for the driver.
The accident, which happened shortly after 6 a.m., blocked traffic on Hooper Street for most of the morning while authorities investigated the incident and a wrecker service removed the truck from the tracks.
The accident happened during a routine operation at the sawmill, Selma Police Department Lt. John Brock said.
“(The driver) was in the yard, not on the street, and they have a crossing there going from one side of the yard to the other,” he said. “He was going to the other side and the conductor of the train saw him right before the crossing and locked it down. But, a train isn’t going to stop on a dime.”
The truck was struck just behind the cab, and the trailer sustained the bulk of the damage.
The driver, who has not been identified, was taken to Vaughan Regional Medical Center.
“He was taken to the hospital and treated and released,” Brock said.
The department, Brock said, is still gathering details on the accident.
“We are still investing it,” he said.
Multiple units from the Selma Police Department and Selma Fire Department responded to the accident.
