Dallas County is preparing to lend a hand and help out those children in need.
The Mayor’s Charity Golf Classic will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 10 a.m. at Valley Grande Golf Course.
The proceeds from the three-on-three golf tournament, which is a program of the Mayor’s Office and co-sponsored by Mayor Tom Lee of Valley Grande and Probate Judge Kim Ballard, will go toward benefiting the special-needs children of Dallas County.
But before the tournament, there will be a banquet open to the children, parents, teachers, aides and the golfers participating in the tournament on Tuesday, Nov.15 at the Carl C. Morgan Convention Center.
“We’re going to have food … and we’re going to give them gifts and have stories read to them (children),” said Mayor George Evans.
“It’s kind of just to have a real nice, entertaining evening for the special-needs children. This is for the city and county kids.”
Evans said that Mickey and Minnie Mouse and Sparky from the fire department, along with other characters, will be in attendance to entertain the children.
Evans said it’s important recognize the special-needs children because they are often forgotten and left out.
“The special-needs kids sometimes seem to be left out,” Evans said.
“So, this is a time just to recognize our special-needs children. I’m just trying to recognize them and give them something to be involved with.”
