The city if Selma opened its doors Friday and the public responded.
Throughout the day, people were allowed to tour the police department, fire houses, cemetery department, recreation department, and public works department.
City of Selma employee benefits administrator Pauline Williams said they received a positive response from the campaign at city hall.
“So far, it’s been good,” Williams said shortly after lunch. “A lot of people have come in. They’ve dropped by to say hello and have some of the treats we have out here.”
In addition to seeing their local governments and city offices in action, visitors were also treated to delicious snacks at every office they visited.
The open house, which is in its second year, grew from the 2010 event, executive assistant B.J. Smothers said.
“We had a full lobby at one point,” she said. “We’ve had a great event so far and a lot of people have come by.”
The event, Smothers said, is designed to wish the community a happy holiday season and allow them to get a first-hand look at city offices in action.
The open house began in December of 2010, and Smothers said they hope to see it grow each year.
