WHITE HALL — The town of White Hall held its first policeman’s ball Friday and took time to honor retired Police Chief Horace Jackson Sr. for 30 years of service, even if he couldn’t make the event.
The ball was organized to help raise money for police department operations.
With Lowndes County Sheriff John Williams on hand, a plaque was displayed to honor Jackson, which read “Chief Horace Jackson Sr. White Hall Police Department in appreciation for your 30 years of dedicated service to the town of White Hall, December 23, 2011.”
“You know, if somebody gives you 30 years of dedicated service, it should be worth something. That’s what it’s about,” White Hall Police Chief Tony M. Bufford said. “He’s retired, but we still rely on his leadership along with the sheriff. You can’t just take 30 years and over look it.” Williams said. “I appreciate the service he gave to White Hall. Chief Jackson’s a real dependable man, and he worked close with me. There wasn’t anything I called him and he didn’t assist me on, and the same with me. We worked close together while he was here.”
