A day for our area to give

With other states already involved, this is the first for Alabama. Gives Day Manager for Alabama Russell A. Jackson said the day is an opportunity for nonprofits to jumpstart their efforts in 2012.
“Rarely do local TV, radio and newspaper groups have an opportunity to make such a large impact on behalf of dozens of nonprofits in their local communities in just one day,” Jackson said in a released statement. “It’s about connecting them (donors) to the missions they are most passionate about, and hopefully a nonprofit will be supported.”
ArtsRevive board member Ann Thomas said giving is a great way to make an impact.
“This is a way for ArtsRevive to get their message out to a lot of different people across the state, not just locally,” Thomas said. “Many people want to help out with all the good things going on in Alabama but don’t really know how; if they have a few dollars, this is the way they can make a big difference.”
Maj. Eric Roberts of Salvation Army said the agency always appreciates the extra support.
“We’re hoping it (Alabama Gives) will generate public support of our services,” Roberts said. “Maybe it will be an inspiration to others that may not have given in the past to give this year.”
