The Cahaba Foundation, the nonprofit organization currently working to restore Old Cahawba, recently elected two new directors to help in its vision.
Fournier J. “Boots” Gale III and Garland Smith of Birmingham will join the ranks of other board members who are securing financial resources to rebuild Old Cahawba, along with its archaeological park, back to glory.
Foundation member Jacque Johnson said the addition of the new directors will be a benefit to the foundation.
“We have a great Board of Directors and the two new members will bring even more to the foundation,” Johnson said. “Fournier J. “Boots” Gale has served on our campaign cabinet. He is very well known throughout Alabama law and business communities. Garland Cook Smith is very interested in our mission and is an outstanding civic leader. I’m looking forward to working with them both.”
Gale is executive vice president and general counsel of Regions Financial. He is founder and former partner of Maynard, Cooper & Gale, PC law firm in Birmingham. Gale is also the former president of the Alabama State Bar.
Smith, who has been active in charitable activities throughout Birmingham, received the prestigious “Outstanding Civic Leader” award in 2011 for her substantial, longstanding service in the philanthropic field.
