City moves forward with landfill

The idea, Sightler said, is to make sure small problems do not become large problems down the road. Some of the work to be performed includes tracking and logging loads, verifying quantities of material, verifying the thickness of materials placed, coordinating with the contractor of the location of all material placement, keeping a daily record of the work performed by the contractor, logging rain events and rain days, and fielding questions from the contractor that might arise during construction.
Council president Cecil Williamson asked Sightler what the cost would have been to just move the materials to another location. Sightler said a project like this could cost $1 million. The cost, she added, would be the least of her concerns.
“I think the bigger issue would be uncovering it and what you would uncover,” she said. “It could turn into a much bigger problem. That would be my biggest fear.”
Sightler said the project that was approved will add up to much less than $1 million over the 30-year span.
“I think if the city will just address issues as they come up it won’t be anywhere near that,” she said.
