Jackson got two successful free throws from Elizabeth Skipper and a basket off a steal from Laken Harvey to put the score at 32-26 with less than a minute remaining, but Simpson scored on a layup and a free throw after being fouled, putting the score at 35-26 and the game out of reach with 0:25 left.
Simpson led the Lady Eagles with 16 points, while Dunning, Bufford and Chasity Minter each had 6 points.
Kristen Lamar had two points to round out the scoring for Ellwood.
Skipper led Jackson with 11 points.
The Lady Eagles now turn their attention to the AISA Class A state tournament in Montgomery, which begins Thursday, Feb. 9.
While Ellwood’s opponent has yet to be determined, Clay knows it’s going to take hard work to continue the momentum.
“We must practice, practice, practice,” Clay said. “We have to practice hard. We’re going to be a little more prepared. Each game prepares us more.”
