Pike to lead Senator baseball team

“It feels pretty good,” Pike said. “I was at Pike County last year, so it’s going to be a transition coming from public to private, but I think it’s going to go pretty well. I’ve been told the boys work hard and love the game, so that’s going to be a big plus. Basically, they’ve got a month, but if they can learn my system I think they’re going to be okay. I’m looking forward to it.”
Pike said his system is simply players learning his terminology for what to do on the diamond.
“It’s just terminology,” Pike said. “Baseball’s the same everywhere, it’s just learning the different terminology as far as bunt defense, cutoffs, pitching terminology, zone location and stuff like that.”
For Pike, the main goal he’s set as he takes over the baseball program is pretty straightforward — win.
“I just want to keep winning,” Pike said. “Winning’s a big deal obviously. I know they’ve been successful here in the past. We just want to continue that. My ultimate goal is to win a state championship, and that’s what we’re going to shoot for.”
