Morgan stresses safety

Most importantly, Morgan said, he wants to make sure children aren’t afraid of police officers and are quick to seek out an officer when they need help.
“None of you should ever be afraid of a police officer,” Morgan told the students. “If you get lost, you need to look to a law enforcement officer. Those guys are there to help you, and don’t ever let anyone tell you otherwise.”
After a short retirement, Morgan said he rejoined the force to keep the program going. Going into the schools is fun, he said, because he is seeing many students who are the children of other students he mentored in the past.
“I see a lot of people who are older that will say ‘I remember when I was a kid and you came and talked to us,” he said. “I see a lot of second generation students.”
Morgan isn’t just working for the children of Selma. He also serves as the law enforcement representative for the state of Alabama on the state Juvenile Justice Task Force on Child Abuse.
Morgan said he has been involved in 3,300 child victimization cases, which motivates him even more to help.
