Wallace plans black history programs

Monday, Feb. 13 at 11 a.m. inside Wallace’s Library reading room, there will be a “book talk” with author Richie Jean Sherrod Jackson. Feb. 15 at 11 a.m., the movie “Beauty Shop” will be shown inside Earl Goodwin Theatre. Thursday, Feb. 16 — “Halftime Hair Styles” inside Wallace’s gym (during halftime of Mens’ and Womens’ basketball games); Feb. 20 through 29 — Quilts, black periodicals and artifacts on display all day inside the library reading room; Tuesday, Feb. 21 students can submit essays titled “My Hairstyle, My Choice,” to the library;

Actor Chris Rock’s movie “Good Hair,” will be shown Feb. 22 at 11 a.m. inside the Earl Goodwin Theatre; A “Hair Design Expo” will take place Monday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. inside the Earl Goodwin Theatre.

King also said the topic of “black hair” is a subject most black women are passionate about.

“African American women are crazy about their hair,” King said. “They are becoming more culturally and spiritually conscious about their hair — moving from chemically processed to more natural … we chose ‘hair’ because it affects and has an impact on a lot of African American women.”
