Teams of volunteers from area churches, the U.S. Army Recruiting Offices in Selma and Montgomery, Junior ROTC and more than a dozen community organizations and youth groups will fan out across the city to tackle selected “hot spots” — areas that have been identified as needing special attention — between 8 a.m. and noon.
Residents are invited to join in cleaning up their neighborhoods by disposing of trash, yard debris, unwanted furniture and other household items and placing them at curbside for pickup. Evans urged all residents to get involved.
“It’s a great opportunity for individuals, families and neighbors to pitch in to show pride in our city and to keep Selma beautiful,” he said.
Shuttle trucks will collect trash beginning at 9 a.m. in all wards throughout the day. Appliances, electronics, household garbage, hazardous waste/pesticides and tires will not be accepted.
Volunteers will assemble in the Council Chamber at City Hall at 8 a.m. for refreshments and to receive their team assignments. Garbage bags and reflective vests will be provided. Evans said that he expects a large turnout.
