There have been no known deaths as a result of the virus, but there have been hospitalizations.
While ADPH says the public should not be alarmed, it encourages the public to report to their healthcare provider and follow their recommendations if they have the following symptoms: fever, rash, sores, poor appetite, a vague feeling of illness and sore throat or painful sores in the mouth.
McIntyre said those infected should contact their healthcare provider and stay away from others because the virus can spread through contact with bodily fluids and surfaces touched by infected persons.
“This is something that we expect to continue to spread if there’s not any kind of medication to stop it,” McIntyre said. “There’s no vaccine that can be given … so what we’re trying to make the public health aware of is the need that if they or their children have these symptoms to stay home as to not spread it to others and contact their healthcare provider.”
