The success of the program may not be known for a few days as court employees work to tally up the number of tickets cleared up and the number that remain. Some of the tickets, Mayor George Evans said in an earlier interview, go back as much as 13 years. And, the total number of outstanding tickets, he said, was over 10,000.
Taylor also stressed, this program does not include any drug tests, saying again “this is with no strings attached.”
The municipal court magistrate office, located at 1300 Alabama Ave., is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
More serious offenses are not included in the program. Those who have reckless driving or driving under the influence offenses will still have to appear in court. The magistrate can set a new court date though.
