PLANTERSVILLE — Students and faculty at Dallas County High School are joining the family of sophomore Sidney Riley in mourning after the 16-year-old died in a single-vehicle accident Sunday evening on Summerfield Road.

According to Alabama State Troopers, Riley was killed when the 1988 Toyota pickup he was driving left the roadway, overturned and struck a tree. Riley was pronounced dead at the scene by the county coroner.

“We’ve had pastors, our two counselors and counselors from other schools here all day,” Dallas County High School assistant principal Dr. Queen Morrow said. “Riley was a model student and he will be sorely missed by students and staff.”

The accident reportedly happened at 7:25 p.m.

“He was quiet mannered, very respectful, just a wonderful student,’” Morrow said of Riley, who was also a member of the school’s band. “I’ve enjoyed spending quality, positive time with him. He was a great student.”

Morrow said she is working with Riley’s family members to make funeral arrangements with the school.
