From the reds, whites, pinks or blues of vincas or peonies in bloom, to warm weather signaling to move clocks forward, spring is here and youth are counting down the days until Spring Break. And for children who have nowhere to go, the Salvation Army is offering children a way of “playful” escape.

The agency will hold its first ever Spring Break Day Camp for children ages 5 to 12, Monday, March 26 through Friday, March 30 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The weeklong camp, to be held at 2104 Franklin St., is $60 and includes a snack.

Maj. Tonya Roberts said the camp will offer a variety of activities to keep children busy.

“There will be music, Bible, arts and crafts, recreational activities (and) indoor and outdoor games,” Roberts said. “Every afternoon the schedule has a different theme. Kids can play kickball, volleyball etc. Activities are 45 minutes each.”

The camp, Roberts said, is a great way for children to fellowship with one another.

“We’re trying to find an alternative for kids,” Roberts said. “It’s a great thing where they can be involved with other kids, learn how to play instruments — we’ve got some tambourines and bells. There’s always something different that’s going to be happening. We want to offer a variety.”

The camp is limited to the first 25 people who sign up, and those who are interested must fill out an application inside the office on Franklin Street. The $60 fee must be paid in advance.

The camp includes a daily schedule of activities, afternoon delight programs and Bible stories ranging from Noah’s Ark to David and Goliath each day. Participants must bring their own lunch.
