Cancer survivors make the first lap around the track at Memorial Stadium last year to help kick off the annual Dallas County Relay for Life.

Since its November kickoff, the Selma-Dallas County Relay for Life is going full force, with 40 teams having signed up to do their parts to raise money for the fight against cancer.

Tanya Miles, Relay chair and American Cancer Society’s southwest representative under Alabama State Leadership Council, said so far, things are going smoothly.

“They’re going good — we’re trying to get teams to go online and register,” Miles said. “We’re really excited. We have … teams, made up of businesses, churches, sororities (and) schools. People, teams are doing the same things they did last year.”

“Selma Charity League, Mutual Savings … Concordia College (Selma), Meadowview Christian (School) and Iota Phi … are new teams,” Miles said. “If we continue to get the support, we’ll do good.”

Local churches and they’re Relay for Life teams are also getting involved in the fundraising efforts.
