The Morgan Academy Senators junior varsity boys and girls defeated the Macon-East Montgomery Academy Knights varsity girls 4-1 at home Friday for their first win of the season.

Jay Minter, assistant soccer coach at Morgan, said it was a big win for the young team made up of mostly 7th and 8th graders.

“This is the second year Morgan’s had any sort of (soccer) program, the first year that a lot of those kids that won this game have ever played soccer,” Minter said. “They’ve been working hard, they’ve been practicing hard and I’m just tickled they can get a win. They’re continuing to improve and we’re just looking to the future.”

The Senators got on the board first when Diyan Patel scored the game’s first goal, as he made it 1-0 Morgan.

Morgan kept it up when Sarah Frasier scored a goal in the first half to put the Senator’s up 2-0.

Patel continued the momentum for the Senators in the second half, scoring another goal to extend the lead to 3-0.

Morgan’s Stanhope Frasier rounded out the scoring for the Senators with a goal of his own in the second half.

Macon-East Montgomery’s only goal came on a free kick.

Minter said the players have been working hard and learning with each game, and that will pay off for the soccer program down the road.

“They’ve shown really good hustle every game, they’re learning the basics of teamwork and they’re trying to work as a team,” Minter said. “In a few years we’re going to have a good team.”
