From the “elixir of life” found in fine wine from the vineyards of France or Spain, to exquisite European cuisines, a piece of European culture will soon be on display in Selma.
The Selma Art Guild will hold a “Wine and Dine” Fundraiser April 12 and 13 at 6 p.m. inside the guild gallery, located at 508 Selma Ave. Tickets are $20 and will go on sale beginning April 1.
Hosted by local dentist Dr. Gery Anderson, the event will also be accompanied with a European meal.
Guild president Sally Jordan said Anderson, who has wine-tasted throughout Europe, will talk about his experience.
“He has traveled around the wine areas of Italy and France and will be explaining what wine goes with what foods and why,” Jordan said. “We will … be surrounded by paintings of food also.”
The meal, Anderson said, will include popular dishes of northern and southern Italy — a starter salad with tomato, mozzarella cheese and basil, a main dish of orange pasta with chicken thighs and a selection of cheeses and fruits at the program’s end.
“If you look at the cultures of Europe, food and wine is tied into the culture and everything, along with visual arts,” Anderson said. “We’re going to talk a little about food and wine but we want people to also enjoy the meal.”
Anderson said he hopes the public can leave the event with a better understanding and gratitude of the arts.
“I hope they’ll enjoy themselves and walk away with a better appreciation of good food and outstanding art,” Anderson said.
Seating is limited, so early ticket purchase is encouraged. Tickets can be purchased from Truax & Co. or from the Art Guild every Friday and Saturday afternoon.
