Crispy, golden fried catfish with a side of French fries is often deemed as the dish of the south and one local organization wants to appease your taste buds for a good cause.
The Salvation Army will hold a fish fry Friday, April 6 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 2104 Franklin St. For $7, buyers can enjoy a plate that will include fried catfish, hush puppies, fries, coleslaw and snack cakes. The proceeds from the sale will help The Salvation Army’s women’s ministry, who will go on a women’s retreat in Talladega May 18-20.
“It will be $175 a lady to go and 10 ladies are going,” said Maj. Tonya Roberts. “We’d like for people to buy a plate and support the cause.”
Though the organization usually sells spaghetti plates as a fundraiser, Roberts said this is the first for a fish fry.
“It’s a spiritual retreat, we have guest speakers that come — author Susie Shellenberger and (the) Omega Co., a ballet,” Roberts said.
Roberts said this year’s theme “Gifts Galore,” is taken from the scripture James 1:17.
“Every good and perfect gift from above is coming down from the father of the heavenly light,” Roberts said.
