The Selma-Dallas County Chamber of Commerce is preparing to hold its annual golf tournament, with a few changes in the process.

The Selma-Dallas County Chamber of Commerce will take place Wednesday, April 25 at Valley Grande Golf Course, with lunch and check in starting at 11 a.m. and tee off at 12 p.m.

Among the few changes is that this year’s tournament is taking place in the spring, as opposed to last year’s, which took place in mid October.

Lee Calame, chairman of the Chamber Golf Tournament, said past tournaments have gone well, but this year’s will see a change in format.

“Past tournaments have been very successful,” Calame said. “Last year’s tournament went real well. (This year) We’ve changed our tournament format to a three-man scramble compared to a four-man scramble to be able to have a little more competition and camaraderie on the course.”

Calame said the tournament is a big fundraiser for the chamber of commerce, which has a mission to attract and develop business in the county.

“It’s (the tournament) a fundraiser for the continued operation of the Chamber of Commerce,” Calame said, “and the chamber’s purpose is to focus on retail development and industrial commerce in the Selma-Dallas County area — not only the development, but the continued support and operation of the existing retail and industrial commerce.”

Sheryl Smedley, executive director of the Selma-Dallas County Chamber of Commerce, said the registration fee is $225 for teams and $75 per player and includes a number of things.

Smedley also said there are options for those who don’t want to play golf, but still want to support the chamber.

“It’s $225 for a team, or $75 per player, and it includes lunch, beverages, golf cart and a chance to win great door prizes donated by local businesses,” Smedley said.

Calame said the tournament not only provides a chance to help support the chamber, it also offers participants a good time.

“(Come out) to support the chamber of commerce in its continued operation, and not only to be able to do that and feel good about it, but to come out and have a good time with your friends and colleagues, and businessmen and women throughout the Selma-Dallas County area,” Calame said.

The deadline to register is April 18.

All checks are payable to the Selma & Dallas County Chamber of Commerce, 912 Selma, Avenue, Selma, AL 36701.
