A community treasure worth checking out

Monday marked the beginning of a week that is worth reading about. Monday marked the beginning of National Library Week and there is no place better to celebrate the impact a library has on a community than in Selma and Dallas County.
The Selma-Dallas County Public Library holds not only a prominent physical location in Selma — right downtown — but it holds a prominent place in the community as it provides far more to the area than just the thousands of book titles available for reading.
It offers meeting space, educational classes, employment and career development resources and far more.
In an age where the Internet is such a crucial part of a person’s day-to-day life, the library makes computer space and time available to many members of our community who do not have access.
In an age where educational development is increasingly more expensive, the library partners with services to make such programs affordable and available.
This week is a perfect time to celebrate our public library, but our appreciation in no way can be limited to just a week.
The Selma-Dallas County Public Library, tay and the people who bring it to life each day are no doubt community treasures.
While we mark a special week, we must remember to celebrate this treasure every chance we get.
