The family of a 30-year-old slain mother still has no closure following her tragic death in early February of this year when she was shot in the abdomen while asleep.
Bridgett Woods was fatally shot in her home on Marie Foster Street when bullets entered her room from outside. The shots claimed Woods’ life but left others sleeping in the same house unscathed.
“This lady is a victim of the purest form,” Selma Chief of Police William T. Riley said. “Individuals acting irresponsibly shot at another individual or possibly a vehicle and caused this action and resulted in her death.”
While authorities and investigators originally believed the shots fired at Woods might have been intended for someone in the home, they now confirm that, “no one at that time in that home contributed to this particular shooting,” Riley said.
Police can also confirm there were people in the area, surrounding the shooting, who would be able to contribute to the investigation, but so far no one has come forward, leaving the family without closure in this tragedy.
“That’s the sad thing about all this,” Riley said. “There are people out there that have information that are not being straight forward with our investigators about what occurred that night.”
Early on Feb. 17 at least three reported altercations occurred in Selma that could possibly be connected, but more importantly they could be connected to the death of Woods. Reported altercations occurred at Club 9000, Club Entourage, and a shooting at Mr. Waffle.
“There is some indication that all three may have been connected and that connection may have led to what occurred, and caused the victim to be killed,” Riley said.
The Selma Police Department is still investigating this case and searching for any persons that may have been involved.
