After a move from the fall to the spring, officials say the Selma-Dallas County Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament continues to be a success.

The chamber held its annual golf tournament Wednesday at Valley Grande Golf Course.

Sheryl Smedley, executive director of the Selma-Dallas County Chamber of Commerce, said the move from the fall to the spring and the change in format was a success.

“The tournament was very successful. Changing the tournament from fall to spring and to a 3-person team proved to create the perfect kind of day, allowing everyone to thoroughly enjoy a perfect day on the links at Valley Grande Golf Course,” Smedley said.

Smedley said after the tournament the players gathered at the clubhouse for door prize drawings donated from the business community and the announcement of tournament winners.

Smedley said a lot of people worked hard to make the event — one of the chamber’s biggest fundraisers — such a success.

“I would like to thank the 2012 Chamber of Commerce Golf Committee and Chamber Board Chair Gail Lovelady for the hard work and commitment to making this year’s tournament a huge success,” Smedley said, “and the team players and hole sponsors who graciously contributed to this event’s success as well.”

A total of 24, 3-person teams competed, with eight teams in each flight.

The team from BankTrust finished in third place for the third flight with a score of 6-under, while the Spanish Moss team finished second in the third flight with a score of 6-under.

In the second flight, Air Pro finished third with a score of 11-under, while Pepsi Cola Bottling Company-Selma finished in second place with 11-under, and Smitherman Bros. took first place with 11-under.

In the first flight, Pine Belt Wireless took third place with 16-under, the Ron Stewart Team took second place with 18-under, and Fargo Bank finished in first place, shooting 20-under.
