The news for accused post office groper Dewayne McCampbell hasn’t gotten any better in the past few days. Late last week, District Judge Bob Armstrong placed a $500,000 bond on McCampbell and on Friday, another woman came forward to police, claiming McCampbell was the man who attacked her assaulted her in mid-March.
According to the Selma Police Department, McCampbell, already in jail for one count of first-degree sexual assault for groping a woman near the Selma Post Office, a woman claimed he was the individual who reached under her dress while shopping at a Dallas Avenue business on March 18.
“After seeing the video of the post office video sexual assault, this victim came to police saying this was the same suspect who assaulted her,” said Selma Chief of Police William T. Riley.
According to Riley, the victim said she was inside an unidentified local business, when she felt something brush up against her leg.
When she turned around, she saw an unknown black male standing behind her. The suspect then reached under her dress and rubbed her legs.
“She told the suspect to stop and he reportedly responded, ‘I do not know you’ and then reached again, touching and grabbing her on the thigh,” Riley said. “The suspect then walked away.”
After seeing media reports, showcasing the post office incident on May 9, the new victim came forward to police.
After the victim came forward, police placed an additional charge of first-degree sexual assault on McCampbell.
According to District Attorney Michael Jackson, he and his office were extremely pleased with the high bond set on McCampbell, even before the new accusations were made Friday.
Jackson said McCampbell’s “violent history,” reflected in a past kidnapping charge and 13-year prison sentence, led to the high bond request by his office and Armstrong’s decision.
McCampbell remains in the Dallas County Jail.
