The last day to register to vote for the Aug. 28 municipal election is Friday. Dallas County Board of Registrars member Lola Sewell said the registrar office has been busy the last few days with people coming in to register.

“Come on in and register to vote if you can,” Sewell said. “If you come in after Aug. 17 to register to vote, you will not be able to vote in the Aug. 28 election.”

She said the registrars office, located on the first floor of the Dallas County Courthouse, would be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday.

As for absentee voters, they can apply for an absentee vote up until Friday, Aug. 23 and they can apply for their absentee ballot as well as do on-site voting at Selma City Hall or chose to mail in their ballot prior to the election.

Sewell said there have been a lot of concerns with voters not receiving their Voter Registration cards, and she said that these would come in the mail and not to worry.

A simple voting registration card only asks for several pieces of personal information like a name, date of birth and address. No identification is required to register to vote, but identification is required at the polls when voting.

If a voter just needs to change their last name or address from their previous voting information, they may do so until Friday.
