Crimestoppers tip leads to loot and suspects

Local law enforcement officials routinely promote the Crimestoppers program, giving those who have information on crimes an avenue to anonymously give tips to authorities.

It is that system that very well might have led to the arrests of those involved in an early Monday morning burglary at On Time Fashions.

Khyle Khristopher Rogers, 19, was taken into custody early Friday morning by Selma Police and charged with three counts of third-degree burglary and placed in the Dallas County Jail under a $150,000 bond.

“We received a call from the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department, informing us they had received a Crimestoppers tip,” Lt. Johnny King, with the Selma Police Department, said. “The call came in Thursday and the informant said they were 100 percent confident some — if not all — of the stolen items were here with Mr. Rogers.”

Once officers arrived at Robert’s apartment at Dallas Avenue Apartments, they found many of the items stolen from On Time Fashions.

“This would not have been possible if had not been for the cooperation with local media and their broadcasting the security video footage,” King said. “Just one day after the video was broadcast, we received the tip to Crimestoppers.”

King said the incident took place early Monday with Rogers and another suspect, breaking in to On Time Fashions and making multiple trips inside the store to remove clothing, watches, shoes and other items.

“Mr. Rogers is being charged with three counts due to the fact we have footage of him entering the store three times,” King said. “Each count comes with a $50,000 bond, which is why the bond was set at $150,000.”

King said the department is continuing to look for the second suspect, who they have described as a black male, 5-foot-10-inches, weighing roughly 180 pounds and a dark complexion. The suspect they have in mind is likely 19 years old also.

“More arrests are pending,” King said.

Third-degree burglary is a Class C felony, carrying a possible prison sentence of one to 10 years for each count.
