Morgan comes back to beat Wilcox

CAMDEN — Going into the Morgan Academy Senator’s locker room at halftime must have not been pretty. In the first half of their game on the road against Wilcox Academy Wildcats, the Wildcats not only led 6-0, but scored a touchdown on the first play.
“Wilcox just came out and just hit us in the mouth from the get go and they scored on the very first play of the ball game,” Morgan head football coach Bob Taylor said. But the team must have taken to heart whatever speech was given in the locker room because they scored 33 points in the second half, leading to a 33-12 victory.
“We just had to fight and claw and get our way back into it,” Taylor said. “We kept going and we had to regroup after half time and we got ourselves together and just came out and we started forcing some turnovers.”
Of the 33 points by the Senators, six were scored in a defensive touchdown, which Taylor said is hard to come by.
“Defensively they played well… we just kind of held on and kind of got ourselves under control and we moved on,” he said.
It was the first time Morgan Academy faced the Wildcats in three years, and Taylor attributed their shaky start to the game to a bad week of practice.
“We had a rough week of practice just from the weather and the holiday and we did not have one of our greatest weeks of practice,” Taylor said. “We were sloppy, got comfortable, and then we realized what we had to do.”
Morgan will travel to Tuscaloosa next Friday to face Tuscaloosa Academy.
