UNIONTOWN — Uniontown Elementary School recently received the Silver Healthy Alliance award for their efforts to promote healthy eating and physical activity to the students.
“We are so excited to receive this award and next year we are going for the Gold,” Counselor Deborah Leonard of Uniontown Elementary said.
Uniontown Elementary has a tie to Demopolis through Principal Fred Moore as he is the pastor of Christian Chapel Baptist Church.
The school promotes healthy eating by offering fresh fruits and vegetables in the cafeteria. In addition, the school has the “Jammin Minute,” where the students get up and move around as they listen to music.
“The students really enjoy that and the teachers like it as well, they say it revitalizes the kids,” she said.
Leonard said this award is very important to the school because it is in efforts to combat childhood obesity.
