Art Guild makes plans for party

Local artisans will flock to the Selma Art Guild Dec. 2 for the annual Selma Art Guild Christmas Party.
Handmade pottery, ornaments, nativity sets and many other items will be available for sale at the party and all offered in a reasonable price range. The party will be held 2 p.m. through 4 p.m. at the guild.
Jo Pate, guild member and artist, said she expects the event to be a hit.
“None of the items sold will be store bought,” Pate said. “These will all be handmade, authentic items. And most of the items will be under $25, so they will be pretty inexpensive.”
The Christmas party also falls on the same day as Sturdivant Hall’s Artisan’s Christmas Fair, which Pate said is no coincidence.
“Normally our events and receptions are on the second Sunday of the month,” Pate said. “But we decided to do it the same weekend as Sturdivant, and hopefully everybody will be able to get all their Christmas shopping done at Sturdivant Hall or the Selma Art Guild.”
Also, after hosting a successful Art Explosion, Pate said she’s excited for the guild to have more exposure in the community.
“There’s so many people in Selma who don’t even realize that the Art Guild exists,” Pate said. “So this is just another opportunity to try and bring in new people and make them see that there is a budding art community in Selma.”
Refreshments will be available during the party, Pate said. Hot chocolate and warm apple cider along with some “festive Christmas food” are just a few of the delicious treats guests can expect.
Paintings will also be displayed on the walls of the guild for those looking for bigger, more expensive Christmas gifts. A large percentage of the proceeds will go toward maintaining the guild and sponsoring more events.
“We’re just hoping for a crisp, gorgeous day to get everyone in the Christmas spirit,” Pate said. “Just pop on in and stay as long as you’d like and have something warm to drink.”
