ORRVILLE — Officials with the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department are confirming they are investigating a Christmas Day murder in Orrville.
According to Dallas County Sheriff Harris Huffman, 33-year-old Maurice Rayford of Orrville, was shot and killed in the parking lot of Eddie’s Bar and Grill on Dallas County Road 115.
Huffman said when deputies responded at around 2:30 a.m., they found Rayford’s body on the ground, already covered with a sheet. An ambulance was dispatched, as well as the coroner. Rayford was declared dead at the scene and transported to Miller Funeral Home.
Rayford and shooting suspect Andrae Stallworth, 29 of Orrville, reportedly got into an altercation in the parking lot before Stallworth retreated to his vehicle to retrieve an automatic handgun. He then came back and shot Rayford multiple times.
Huffman said deputies and investigators spent the rest of the day searching for Stallworth, but were unable to find him. Wednesday morning, Stallworth showed up at the Dallas County Jail to turn himself in to authorities.
Huffman said Stallworth was then transported to the sheriff’s offices in the Dallas County Courthouse, where he was being interviewed.
Stallworth is being charged with capital murder and will be placed in the Dallas County Jail under no bond. A hearing later this week will determine if a bond — of any amount — will be set.
Huffman said an autopsy is expected to be conducted in the coming days.
