Stakes raised as local squads learn sub-regional opponents

With the area tournaments wrapped up, local high school basketball teams will have to refocus their attention if they want to continue their seasons, as opponents for the sub-regionals have been named.
Six local high school basketball teams will be playing in the sub-regional playoffs on Thursday and Friday, with four teams hosting games and two hitting the road.
The Keith High School Bears boys and girls basketball teams will both host a Class 1A Central Sub-Regional game.
The Keith Lady Bears (27-3, ranked No. 8 in Class 1A) will host Berry High School (23-6) on Thursday at 7 p.m., while the Keith boys (19-10, ranked No. 4 in Class 1A) will host Holy Spirit on Friday at 7 p.m.
In Class 3A, the Southside High School Panthers boys basketball team (20-9) will host Bayside Academy on Friday at 7 p.m. in a South Sub-Regional game.
In Class 4A, the Dallas County High School boys basketball team (24-5, ranked No. 1 in Class 4A) will host Dadeville High School on Friday at 7 p.m. in a Central Sub-Regional game.
As a result of losing in the area championship game, the Selma High School girls and the Dallas County High School girls basketball teams will each have to travel on Thursday.
In Class 4A, the Dallas County Lady Hornets will travel to Dadeville on Thursday at 7 p.m. in a Central Sub-Regional game.
In Class 5A, the Selma Lady Saints (20-11) will travel to Central-Tuscaloosa High School (23-5) on Thursday at 7 p.m. in a Central Sub-Regional game.
A win in the sub-regional playoff will send teams to the regional tournament, while a loss means the end of the season.
The Central Regional Tournament will run Feb. 18-23 at Alabama State University’s Acadome in Montgomery, while the South Regional Tournament will take place Feb. 18-23 in Mobile at the University of South Alabama’s Mitchell Center.
