Edward Daniel

Edward Daniel was born on June 13, 1936 in Birmingham, Alabama to Fannie and Milton Daniel. He received his Bachelor of Science from Kentucky State University and later receives his Master’s degree from Alabama State University.
He worked one year at Marion Baptist Academy (1958); in 1959 he taught at Lincoln School and remained there until 1969, from 1969-1994 he taught at Francis Marion High School. He was named to the Alabama High School Athletics Sports Hall of Fame in 1994. Mr. Daniel taught Driver’s Education at MMI preparatory school for one year.
He served on the Marion City Council from 1984-1992. Mr. Daniel ran successfully for Mayor of Marion and served in that capacity from 1992-2004. Mr. Daniel served on several committees including the Alabama league of Municipalities Executive Committee, President of World Conference of Mayors, the Alabama and the National Conference of Black Mayors, Foundation Board at MMI, Board of Directors of the Perry County Chambers of Commerce, GCWCC Board of Directors. He served as Vice President of Sowing Seeds of Hope Board of Directors.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving and devoted wife, Viola Hill Daniel; one son, Eric Daniel; two grandchildren, Arrika and Corey Daniel; A host of relatives and friends.
Funeral will be Thursday March 14, 2013 at twelve noon at the Friendship Baptist Church in Marion, Al. The interment will be held at Faunsdale Cemetery in Faunsdale, Al. He will lie in state from eleven a.m. to twelve noon. (Prior to funeral service) In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Judson College and MMI foundation board in memory of Mr. Edward Daniel.
