Evie Winston Smith, Sr. age 81 of Thomaston, AL died May 5, 2013 at Noland Hospital in Montgomery, AL. He was born January 31, 1932 in Lasca, AL. Mr. Smith was the owner of Winston’s Pecans. He was a former assistant postmaster in Selma, AL and retired as postmaster in Camden, AL. Mr. Smith was also a farmer and a member of the Thomaston United Methodist Church where he was a Sunday School teacher. He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served as a navigator during the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his daughter, Verna Smith (Martin) Scroggins of Eufaula, AL; son, Evie Winston “Rusty” Smith, Jr., of Houston, TX; daughter, Jennifer Smith (Joe) Carroll of Roswell, GA; son, Jeffrey Vann (Noel) Smith of Dublin, GA; son, Anthony Reynolds (Lawana) Smith of Gulf Shores, AL; two sisters, Francis Smith Holley of Marianna, FL; Carolyn Smith Hanks of Oklahoma City, OK; brother, James Kenneth Smith of Prattville, AL; eight grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Thomaston United Methodist Church on Thursday, May 9, 2013 from 10:00 am until the 11:00 am service time with Rev. Dunford Cole officiating. Burial will be at Forest Springs Cemetery in Morvin, AL.
