We commend the city and county for funding July 4 show

The Dallas County Commission announced they would be helping to sponsor the annual fireworks show at Bloch Park this July 4 to celebrate the birth of our great country.
For those who have been in years past, they know this is a show of high caliber and a great way to pay tribute to the United States and our armed forces.
While other productions may have just a simple firework show, Selma’s show incorporates all sorts of local fun. Last year there were speeches from local high school students, area children performed “We Are The World,” with council members and Selma Mayor George Evans, and local veterans were recognized.
It may be a hefty expense for our local municipalities, but after attending the show, residents will be able to see what a unifying event it is. It truly brings together everyone in the city to celebrate something we all hold dear. Residents come out in their shorts, patriotic shirts and are ready to cheer for, honestly, a fantastic show.
For those that have not attended the show and are planning to stick around Selma for the holiday, we encourage everyone to attend and celebrate not only the reason for July 4, but also how well our city comes together.
We want to thank the Dallas County Commission and the city of Selma for supporting this show. We are glad to know our representatives do not just spend money on the basics, but realize the importance of having a good quality of life. The firework show is something to brag about in Selma, and if we continue to dish out funds, we can bring in more friends each and every year to enjoy it.
