The Selma Art Guild’s walls will be adorned with art of several mediums during the month of June as it hosts its Summer Juried Art Exhibition. Entries need to be submitted to the gallery, located at 508 Selma Ave., Friday between noon and 6 p.m. or Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. Works will be juried and results available Saturday from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Louella Clements, co-president of the guild, said the art show offers a terrific outlet for local and regional artists to display their work. Also, she said the show gives an opportunity for residents to come out and see the type of artwork being produced locally.

“We do this every year. We rarely reject artists too, so there will be a lot of artwork,” Clements said. “Most of it is from local artists but we do have a lot of submissions from people in Montgomery, Prattville and other parts of the state.”

Submissions aren’t restricted to just painting and drawing. Clements said in years past the guild has displayed work ranging in oil and acrylic to clay and mixed media.

A reception will be held Sunday, June 9 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. for residents to enjoy the artwork displayed.

“It’ll be displayed throughout the month, so I encourage everyone to stop by and see the gallery,” Clements said. “As an artists myself, it’s great to know other people are looking at and enjoying your work, whether or not they buy it.”

Juror for the show is Donna Pickens, an artist who has worked in mediums of paint, sculpture, installations and large-scale public and private art commissions since 1986. Internationally, her artwork has been exhibited in Argentina, Mexico, Germany and England.

Those wishing to submit work to the show must pay the Selma Art Guild membership fee of $35 and the show entry fee of $10 for two pieces. Up to two additional pieces may be entered for $5 each. Artists must be at least 18 years old.

All work included in the show will be available for sale unless designated otherwise by the artist. Categories include transparent, opaque, photography, 3-D, works on paper and mixed media. Best in show will be awarded $500, best in category $100, second in category $75 and third $50.

Throughout June, residents can view the work each Friday and Saturday, noon to 4 p.m.

“The art show is meant to get people interested in art and acquainted with local artists,” Clements said. “I encourage everyone to come out and see it.”
