MONTGOMERY (AP) — Four Alabama State athletic teams received postseason bans for the upcoming seasons, including football and men’s basketball.
The Hornets were among 10 schools with a total of 18 Division I teams barred from the postseason under NCAA academic progress reports
The multi-year report also resulted in postseason bans for volleyball and baseball in 2013-14. The baseball and softball programs received cuts to practice time.
Alabama State, which fields 18 teams, has requested waivers seeking review of the sanctions.
Interim University President William H. Harris says the university has made staffing and coaching changes to improve academics. Harris says he’s optimistic the bans will be lifted and says Alabama State is “committed to assuring that athletic programs meet or exceed the established standards.”
