Commander Joseph Clinton Blake, Jr U.S. Navy Ret., of Auburn, was born in Selma, Alabama on October 20, 1932 and passed away at his home on November 5, 2013. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Mr. Blake received his undergraduate degree from Auburn University in 1960, followed by a masters degree from America University in Washington D.C. He was a member of the Theta Chi fraternity, Disabled American Veterans organization, Naval Officers Association, and the American Legion.

Mr. Blake proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy for 28 years. He served on the USS Coral Sea, was XO of the USS Georgetown, and captained the USS Mulliphen. He served in Naval Intelligence and retired from the Navy in 1980, at which time he started his second career as human resources director at Twitchell Corporation in Dothan, Alabama.

 

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Glenda Anne Huggins Blake; son, Joseph Gregory Blake of Slidell, LA; daughter, Tracy Kathryn Blake of Montgomery, AL; and son, Jeffrey Alexander Blake of Auburn, AL.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, with Rev. Libba Stinson officiating. Interment will follow in Town Creek Cemetery.

Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour.
