Mary Elizabeth Acreman Sexton

Mary Elizabeth Acreman Sexton, 47, passed away Monday, December 30, 2013. She was born in Chandler, Arizona on March 2, 1966 to Anita and Jim Acreman. She attended Columbia State Community College of Nursing and received her Nurse Practitioner Degree from University of Alabama in Huntsville.

Among the many places she tended to patients were Vanderbilt Cardiac in Nashville and Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia, Tennessee. She was also the owner of Derma Solutions in Centerville, Tennessee.

Mary was a fierce protector of animals and founded the Hickman County ASPCA and fought to shut down Tennessee puppy mills. She testified in Washington and appeared on Dateline NBC urging that more action be taken to stop the inhumane treatment that animals in puppy mills received.

She was an active member of her community and loved her friends and neighbors in Centerville, Tennessee.

She has gone to join her father, Jim Acreman, in heaven. She leaves behind her mother, Anita Acreman, her sisters, Erika (Steve) Smitherman, and Ida (Jim) Ryan. Also her nieces, Suzanne Perkins, Summer Taylor, JoAnna Smitherman and Chelsea Ryan. A nephew, Travis Ryan.

Memorial services were held at McDonald Funeral Home on Thursday, January 2, 2013, in Centerville, Tennessee. Funeral Services were held at White Oak Pond Presbyterian Church on Saturday, January 4, 2013.
