The Dallas County Lady Hornets fell to area-leading Childersburg 58-20 Thursday night at Dallas County High School.
The Hornets trailed 27-10 after a turnover filled first half and were unable to get back into the game in the second half.
“Way too many turnovers,” Dallas County head coach Charles Thompson said.
“We didn’t take care of the basketball and we didn’t play with a lot of enthusiasm tonight. When you go out and play like that you see the results, you get embarrassed.”
The Hornets were coming off of their third win of the year, which came against county rival Southside last week.
Camisha Moore scored seven points to lead the Hornets and Alexis Gunn added six points.
Childersburg continues to lead Class 5A, Area 6 with a 6-0 area record.
“It is always big when you win in the area, especially on the road,” Childersburg head coach Johnny Johnson said.
The Tigers are likely to host the area tournament, especially if they can win their game against Holtville.
“We are just trying to get the little things down before the area tournament starts and that is what we did,” Johnson said. “In the second quarter we started picking it up a little bit. We did all of the little things right.”
Tariah Reynolds and Tia Wells scored 10 points for Childersburg.
Dallas County’s next game is against Stanhope Elmore Friday night and then the Hornets host Holtville Monday, Jan. 21 in another area game.
