Elton Reece, director of the Selma Parks and Recreation Department, said players enjoy competing with others their age.
“It is a fun thing because they have been doing it for years together,” said Elton Reece, director of the Selma Parks and Recreation Department. “It is almost like a reunion.”
Reece said normally 40 to 50 golfers take part in the tournament. Players can register at the recreation office at Memorial Stadium or at Valley Grande Golf Course.
“This gives people in an older age group something to do and it allows them to remain competitive in and something they can still do,” Reece said.
Since district nine is so large, Reece said every golfer that participates in next week’s tournament is eligible for the Masters Games state tournament, which is set for Oxford Alabama Oct 6-7.
