Upward soccer registration underway

Registration is underway for the Upward Soccer program at Valley Grande Baptist Church.
The program, which will include up to 96 kids this year, is for ages four through sixth grade. Kirk Sims, who is the program’s director this season, said Upward is a fun-filled way to bring people together.
“It is a good ministry to bring the community together,” Sims said. “It unites other churches because we will have them come help. They will referee or coach, because anybody can be a coach.”
Sims said the program also teaches children that the final score isn’t always the most important thing.
“We teach that there is more to life than just winning,” Sims said. “It is important how you play and why you play.”
Early registration, which is underway now, costs $46. After Aug. 22, the cost to register goes up to $56.
The deadline to register is Aug. 28.
There will be evaluation periods for players Aug. 26 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Aug. 28 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The first games of the year will be held on Sept. 20.
