Juvenile to be tried as an adult

A local juvenile will be tried as an adult for the July 3 robbery of a woman at Selma’s China Wok restaurant.
District Attorney Michael Jackson said District Judge Bob Armstrong certified Justin Rose, 16, to be tried as an adult during a transfer hearing earlier this week.
“We put out our evidence, the defense put out their evidence, and the judge certified him,” Jackson said. “He’s going to be tried as an adult, because he did an adult crime.”
According to earlier reports, Jackson and two other juveniles snuck up behind a 51-year-old woman as she entered the restaurant and slammed the door on her arm, forcing her to drop her purse.
According to Jackson, the woman told investigators the three men approached her from behind her as she entered the restaurant and slammed the door on her right arm, forcing her to drop her purse, which was then picked up by one of the men before all three men fled the scene.
The day after the robbery, Selma Police investigator Lt. Curtis Muhannad described the victim’s injuries and the money the robbers made off with.
“The victim had some swelling and bruising on her arm as a result of this attack,” Muhannad said. “She also had $4,000 cash in her purse at the time. She was making preparations for a three or four day family reunion, and so far, we’ve been able to recover $500.”
Jackson said this kind of robbery is shocking to see in a town the size of Selma.
“It’s very disturbing to see something like this,” Jackson said. “You’ll see something like this go on in bigger cities, but you hate to see that in Selma.”
According to Jackson, Rose is being held at the Dallas County Jail on a $500,000 bond until his bond hearing in the next few weeks, while Judge Armstrong decided to send Rose’s two accomplices into the juvenile justice system.
