Dr. Timothy Marlow, a local physician who specializes in obstetrics and gynecology, will get to showcase his artistic side Monday, when he displays his paintings for an upcoming art show.
Marlow’s artworks, which are commonly acrylic paintings, will be featured at the Selma Art Guild Gallery’s special art show. The public is encouraged to visit the Selma Art Guild Gallery, located on Selma Avenue, from 6 to 9 p.m. for a free viewing of the pieces and an opportunity to purchase them.
“Art tells you about the world you live in,” Marlow said. “It can transform emotions.”
Marlow also plans to hypnotize willing guests, which is a practice he does with some of his patients.
From Greenville, Marlow spends various times of his day completing artwork, a craft he has loved all his life. His inspiration for what he’ll create can be anything from a picture, people, his family members, items, etc.
“The most important thing to me is color,” Marlow said. “You can represent local and foreign history with art.”
Ann Blackwell, an aspiring Selma Art Guild member, helped convince the Selma Art Guild to host a special show for the local artist. As someone who formerly worked at and art gallery in Montgomery, Blackwell is advising Marlow on how he should price his work.
Blackwell said she is amazed by how Marlow has the time to commit to what can be a very demanding medical occupation and still create such beautiful work.
“His originally works, to me, are truly original. They are vibrant, colorful and simplistic and eye-catching,” Blackwell said. “I don’t know how he has the time to do that and deliver babies.”
