Mrs. Bettie M. Smith, 85, resident of Selma, passed away September 22, 2014 at UAB Hospital. Services will be announced by held September 27, 2014, 11:00 a.m. at Ellwood Community Church officiated by Pastor Gary L. Crum. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery directed by  Randall Miller Funeral Service.

Survivors include five sons, Eugene (Tammie) Smith Jr., James (Connie) Smith, Edward (Bessie) Smith, Charles (Veronica) Smith, and Terry M. Smith; five daughters, Shirley Williams, Rozenia (Kevin) Sherman, Leomia (Joe) Miles, Idell Van-Tol, Cynthia Fails; two brothers, Eugene (Mary) Carter and Vanderbilt (France) Carter; four sisters, Deal Meddleton, Beatrice Harris, Jamie M. People, and Bertha Dial; thirty grandchildren, thirty two great grandchildren, one great-great grand,  twenty-nine nieces, and nineteen nephews. Pallbearers will be sons and grandsons.
