The Selma man who allegedly murdered a 25-year-old man over a heated game of dominoes appeared in court Monday.
District Judge Bob Armstrong issued a $500,000 bond for the suspect, Kchebe Derrick Boyd, Monday during his bond hearing.
District Attorney Michael Jackson said he was not pleased to learn the bond wasn’t set at the $1.5 million bond his legal team requested.
“It was just a tragic and senseless killing to kill someone over a dominoes game,” Jackson said. “What is this world coming to?”
Selma officers responded to the 2100 Block of Bienville Street Wednesday in reference to a gunshot victim. Officials found a 25-year-old male laying in a resident’s front yard with a gunshot wound to the chest and another to the neck.
The possible motive for the shooting was gambling over dominoes that led to an argument about money, Muhannad said.
A Care Ambulance transported the victim to Vaughan Regional Medical for treatment, and he died at the hospital, according to Selma PD.
Further investigation into the incident led police to suspect to Boyd as the shooter.
Detectives went to locations where Boyd was known to visit and alerted others that they were looking for him.
That same night, Boyd turned himself into detectives at 9 p.m. at the Selma Police Department, where he was interviewed by detectives and arrested on probable cause for murder.
Boyd is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 9 for his preliminary hearing held at the Dallas County Courthouse, according to Jackson.
Murder is a Class A felony. If convicted, Boyd could be face from 10 years to life in prison and fines up to $60,000.
